MAXIMISING TYRE LIFE: KEY PRACTICES FOR EFFICIENCY

Effective tyre management isn’t just about avoiding breakdowns, it’s about keeping your fleet running safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

At Bunbury Trucks, we know that downtime hurts business. That’s why we’re committed to helping you get the most out of every tyre in your fleet with our expert servicing.

But alongside professional maintenance, there are also smart in-house practices that can contribute to your bottom line when it comes to tyre efficiency.

Maintain Load Capacity

Overloading tyres is a common mistake that significantly shortens their lifespan. For every 10% of overcapacity, tyre life decreases by approximately 16%. To prevent this, ensure that the load weight is evenly distributed across all tyres. Always match the tyres’ load rating to the vehicle’s total weight, factoring in the number of wheels.

Check Tyre Pressure

Proper tyre inflation is vital to tyre durability and safety. Over-inflated tyres wear out faster in the centre, while under-inflated tyres experience excessive wear on the shoulders, damaging the sidewalls. Likewise for every 10% under-inflation, there is a 7% reduction in tyre life. Regularly check air pressure and perform pre-trip inspections to identify any potential damage.

Ensure Wheel Alignment and Balance

Misaligned or poorly balanced wheels cause uneven tyre wear. Regular wheel alignment and balancing checks help ensure even tyre wear, extending their lifespan and improving safety. Encourage drivers to perform these checks at regular intervals to maintain optimal tyre performance.
